Northern Lights come to Sheffield

12 January 2009

One of the most significant developments for Sheffield's creative and digital industry has unveiled its own creative and digital expertise to create a nightly light show.

Each night, the four floors of Building 2.0 at Sheffield Digital Campus are the stage for an ambitious and choreographed light show created by local exhibition and presentation specialists tdc Ltd.

The building is one of two that have now been completed at Sheffield Digital Campus - and the first of a planned 600,000 square feet of prestigious office space dedicated to the creative and digital industries in Sheffield. The industries are one of the fastest growing sectors of the Sheffield economy and the city and the surrounding region have some of the most important operators in the country.

"Sheffield Digital Campus is the cornerstone for developing the digital and creative industries in the region, and we decided to shed a bit of light on the superb facilities companies operating in this sector have access to," said Deborah Doyle, project manager of the Sheffield Digital Campus development and Director of GMI Property Company who, alongside Valad Property Group and Scarborough Development Group, are spearheading the development of the site.

The developers approached tdc to create a nightly show which would provide a talking point for the city. The installation was designed by Eamonn Hunt at the Whiting Street-based company. Eamonn has over twenty five years experience of lighting design for clients as diverse as Madonna and the Olympics, and now specialises in city beautification, the lighting of buildings and large scale projection onto buildings and cityscapes.

"The Digital Campus installation is extremely simple yet effective; we have utilised four automated and synchronised 1.8kW projectors which have created an elegant yet highly impactful presentation that encompasses the creative and digital spirit of the Digital Campus," commented Eamonn.
