21 December 2008

Sheffield Digital Campus, the £120 million project designed to catapult Sheffield's creative and digital industries among the world's best, has reached its first milestone with the practical completion of the first of several planned buildings.

Construction on Building 2.0 The Concourse, a 50,000 square foot grade A office development, has now been completed and the office building is currently undergoing an internal fit-out for future tenants.

The new building joins another 50,000 square foot development at Sheffield Digital Campus which has been completed at the same time and pre-let to Sheffield City Council. The Campus, one of Sheffield City Council's "Magnificent Seven" projects designed to reinvent the city, has more that 500,000 square feet of development space still to be developed for companies operating in the booming creative and digital industries.

"Sheffield has an incredibly exciting group of companies working in the rapidly growing digital sector, and these businesses need a home which will provide them with real competitive advantages," said Deborah Doyle, Director at GMI Property Company which, together with joint venture partners Valad Property Group and Scarborough Development Group is masterminding the multi-million pound development.

"Building 2.0 at Sheffield Digital Campus has been designed to provide a perfect home to companies exploiting the fantastic opportunities open to Sheffield businesses following the trailblazing efforts of companies such as Zoo Media, Warp Films and Rockstar Games which have placed Sheffield firmly on the global map of the digital and creative sector.

"Our partners at Sheffield Digital Campus - including Yorkshire Forward, English Partnerships and Creative Sheffield - are tremendously excited at the potential the sector promises for jobs and economic growth and have invested considerable resources in the Digital Campus to create a real driver for the industry.

"Building 2.0 The Concourse quite simply will be the best address for businesses working in the creative and digital industries."
