Electric Works Awards 1.5 Million Fit-Out Contract and Confirms Opening Date

15 September 2008

Electric Works management company Creative Space Management (CSM) has awarded the £1.5 million contract to fit-out the interior of the 50,000 sq. ft. building to Leeds-based GMI Construction.

GMI Construction, in conjunction with sister company GMI Property Company, is developing one of the country's most exciting and inspirational workspaces in the country for Sheffield City Council and its appointed management company CSM. The unique building, designed to provide growing space for companies up to 50 employees, includes a 25 metre helter-skelter in the three storey atrium and European-influenced designs.

The fit-out contract gives GMI Construction responsibility for all interior work including creating individual offices, a central 'pod' conference room for 150 people and the flexible work areas for freelance businesses.

Paul Tew from GMI says: "This is an exciting brief. Electric Works will have to work hard as a building because it must not only be an excellent place to work and to meet people, but also an iconic space that represents the growth of a new industry within the region.

"This means our work will be to a very high specification and will deliver the type of workspace rarely seen outside major European centres of culture."
